Is your glass half empty or half full

I emigrated to Canada at an early age and it brought with it many challenges, socially, culturally and emotionally.

God has an important bearing on our emotional life. None of us lives with the facts of our lives.
We live with a story we tell ourselves about those facts. Our memories come from these stories. Although the facts of our lives never change, our memories can be edited as was mine. How merciful this is! This is why children raised in the same family can remember events from their early years in such different ways. Our interpretation of the events of our lives is repeated over and over again, thus our emotions have their roots in the repetitions of these interpretations of the past.

Sooner or later, each of us has to learn to deal with some very unpleasant facts of life—illness, career failure, family tragedy, bankruptcy, betrayal by a trusted friend or mate, divorce, death….the list is endless. The versions of the stories we could tell ourselves about the same set of unpleasant facts range from very destructive to very creative. Our view of God is a major determinant in which version we choose
