to time in our lives with certain opportunities. Certain opportunities cannot be grabbed until you let go of your death-grip on the need for security. Some opportunities only come online when you’re already in motion, so if you stay put and stick to what keeps you feeling secure, you automatically pass up great opportunities — you won’t even see them. For example, often you must release a dead-end job or a dead-end partnership in order to access something better for you.
An excellant example of missed opportunities is recorded for us in scriptures. The Jewish nation was afraid to enter the land of milk and honey because of fear of the Giants in the land.
It’s hard to summon the courage to value opportunity over security. Very hard. Anyone who says otherwise is probably trying to sell you something. But it’s worth it. So let it be hard, respect it as one of life’s major challenges, and do it anyway.
I remember as a young man in high school listening to my math teacher one day say, if you want to be financially successful borrow money, work for it, get it by hook or by crook but buy land options around the greater Toronto area. This was in 1963. I should have acted on his advice. Other opportunities came along to buy property, stocks, enter business arrangements, new job opportunities. Some I took advantage of but the big opportunities, I failed because of fear and the need of security for myself and family.
Having said the above from an individual point of view I have led a very successful financial life. I choose a good vocation, used my money wisely, and made some good decisions. However I could have accomplished so much more had the need for security not hindered my ability to take advantage of the opportunities that life presented to me. Take advantage of the opportunities life presents to you!!!!!
